Xar

Human City, seat of the principality of Xar.

Population 250,000, mixed. Dwarven military contingent, 2000. Human military, 50,000.

The island nation of Xar. Free city. Xar is almost unique in that it was founded During the long night, with no assistance from the empire, and no hearth hall. the long island upon which the city sits gradually slopes up, till you have the 150 foot sea cliffs that the city makes it's stand upon. As the story goes, during the night, there were two noble brothers, headmen of the then refugees of hearth hall #846. They had a fundamental disagreement of opinion. One felt the Empire could be intimately trusted, the other felt that in order to work a square deal, One needed to be on similar footing. This argument and feud lasted a good 15 years before Yorgen Brast, founder, set out from the coast to the nearby island with a pack of hearty loyalists. 5 years pass, and they are presumed dead, until a ragged band arrives with food from the sea, furs, and a dozen cords of wood to trade for specialty expertise and supplies. the island, it seems, had extensive sea caves, caves suitable to habitation. Today, these are used as storage for the many ships and trading companies that make Xar their home port. The main temple of Hermanos makes its home at the head of the island also acting as the Grand Lighthouse, guiding ships to port. Outsiders are welcomer only after a lengthy vetting process lasting weeks if not months and sometimes years, giving rise to a vibrant visitor's quarter.
